A serious writer is not to be confounded with a solemn writer. A serious writer may be a hawk or a buzzard or even a popinjay, but a solemn writer is always a bloody owl.
Ernest Hemingway
I have felt like a solemn writer lately. It’s amazing how your mood seeps through in posts and tweets, even if you try to hide it. Isn’t it fitting that today’s photo challenge was an image for something you hate? Anyways, to avoid those sneaky hate spirals (that links to an ah-mazing blog post), let’s move on to an OOTD!!!
Today I was attending my cousin’s birthday dinner, so I wanted to dress pretty casual. I had recently received my Yours Clothing order, so I wanted to wear out the AMAZING jeggings and owl shirt I had gotten. These jeggings are my new favorite. They are not as loose in the stomach as Evan’s jeggings are, which make them a perfect fit for me. Many times, the Evan’s jeggings can be pulled up way past my navel, these sat right at or below my navel, which made them much more comfortable to wear. They are also much more closer to the length I need in jeggings. I really can’t adequately describe how much I love them. The tee is a lot longer than I’m used to wearing. I know it makes me look short, but I actually like the shirt a lot. It’s a fun thing to wear that’s outside of my usual (because I hardly wear printed tees or long tees).
The tee actually has some rhinestones on it, which I wasn’t too sure about at first, but now I like them. There aren’t too many of them, so they just draw a bit of attention to the awesome owl print. I put on my Lane Bryant leather jacket and red velvet Evan’s flats to complete the look.
I also really love the sleeves on this top. Probably one of the few tops I own that are a true 3/4 sleeve on my arms! The tee fits closely up top, but then lays loose towards the bottom.
While this isn’t the best photo in the world, it does show another thing I love about these jeggings.. BACK POCKETS! Many times jeggings use thread to imitate pockets. I’m always sticking my cell in my back pocket so I was super excited to see that they were real.
I’ve also been playing around with hair and make up. Although it’s hard to see in this photo, I braided the front of my hair and clipped it to the side. I only pull the braid from the front, but I do it like a French braid in that I pull hair after each time. The key to doing a front braid well is to not do it too tight, because if it’s tight it will pull from the other side and not go well with the rest of your hair that is just down. I also used Sonia Kashuk’s gel eyeliner on my top lids.
This photo shows my make up a little better.
P.S. I promise to stop being a “bloody owl” 🙂
