Helllllloooo! I’ve decided to make a vlog for the dialect experiment that I’ve seen on some blogs. I first saw it on the blog Blargle Fargle and decided to make my own.

I’m going to post the details of the dialect experiment under the vlog.
Say these words:
Aunt, Route, Wash, Oil, Theater, Iron, Salmon, Caramel, Fire, Water, Sure, Data, Ruin, Crayon, Toilet, New Orleans, Pecan, Both, Again, Probably, Spitting image, Alabama, Lawyer, Coupon, Mayonnaise, Syrup, Pajamas, Caught
Now answer these questions:
What is it called when you throw toilet paper on a house?
What is the bug that when you touch it, it curls into a ball?
What is the bubbly carbonated drink called?
What do you call gym shoes?
What do you say to address a group of people?
What do you call the kind of spider that has an oval-shaped body and extremely long legs?
What do you call your grandparents?
What do you call the wheeled contraption in which you carry groceries at the supermarket?
What do you call it when rain falls while the sun is shining?
What is the thing you change the TV channel with?
I think you have a nice voice! I think these dialect experiments are super cool. I love hearing what different people say in different areas. My accent and words/pronounciations are seriously strange, because I grew up in Scotland, but moved to Canada when I was 14. And to the East Coast too, which has so many weird expressions. So yeah, I still say many British terms but with a strange mid-Atlantic accent. I should do one of these to try it out!

i like your man voice because it’s totally not what i would have expected you to sound like. i’ve thought about doing this. i’d probably say “like” every other word though and then people will think i’m a ditz! eep.
Haha, yeah, I worried about saying “ums” and things like that, too. Ah well, I think most of us are so used to hearing “like” that we probably wouldn’t even notice it! I’m ALWAYS surprised by what blogger’s voices sound like. Especially if I’ve been reading their blogs for a long time and then hear it. It’s kind of funny how that works.
My husband is from the south, and I love to have him say words like ruin, mirror and siren. He thinks it is funny that a bubbly drink is a “pop”, and we use a grocery sack not bag here in Nebraska. My husband can tell immediately from the accent which part of the south that someone is from, I usually can’t tell. Great experiment.
Thanks, Georgia! I have a brother-in-law that is very southern and one that is from Iowa, so it’s interesting hearing them talk because it’s so different.

We sound so much alike! I’m from Greensboro, NC and my dad grew up in Illinois so I have a lot of that North/South hybrid thing going on too.
To complicate things even more, my fiance is Italian and from New Jersey so now I’ve picked up a lot of Italian words in my vocabulary plus some “Yankee” slang. For example, I say “mangia” for “eat” and I tend to say “you guys” instead of “y’all” now.
Great experiment though… I think I might try it out too. :o)
