OOTD: Coral Red = Happiness

March 23, 2011

Lately I’ve been a little obsessed with coral red colors popping up in outfits, so when I needed to replace some shoes after my little monster-puppy, Lola, destroyed a few pairs I knew exactly what I wanted. My new shoes gave me the extra boost to play up the coral reds in a casual spring time look.

I had gotten a pair of light-medium denim from Yours Clothing a couple weeks ago when they had a crazy sale, so I decided to break those out for the first time. I cut the bottoms of the jeans (they had foot stirrups.. is that even a thing?) and then worked on cuffing them. I used my handy dandy hair straightener to really get the cuffs crisp, which is a little trick I figured out when I lived in a dorm.

I added on a basic v-neck tee from Target and my new cardigan from Target that I got from the maternity section. I know some people have their grievances with buying maternity clothes or just refuse to do it. I completely understand not doing so, but for me, maternity clothes fit me well since I am narrower in my shoulders/bust and wider towards my stomach and hips. Target has REALLY cute clothes in their maternity section. Now if only their plus-section would take some notes!

The cardigan has a jersey back so it’s stretchy, but the front is a sheer material that is really light and fun.

I added on some fun jewelry that I picked up at Forever21 for really great prices. The bracelet has elastic in it, so it can fit most wrists, and the necklace has a really cute and intricate elephant design. These are quite possibly my favorite two pieces of jewelry right now, and of course, they both have a peek of that coral red that I love so much.

Of course I can’t forget a close up of the shoes that inspired the look. I bought these at Target as well, and they are REALLY comfortable. The material fits with your foot and is soft. I love the woven detail, and the peep-toe will serve me well into summer.

I really felt cute in my outfit today, and it carried my good attitude throughout the day. I drove to school with my windows down, music blaring, and my sunglasses on. I was listening to a lot of music from Glee, so I’m sure I got some weird looks from my singing, but the feeling was well worth it 😉 I finished the day by going out with a friend to dinner (and more Target shopping). It was the perfect ending to a good day. I love days when I feel like this 🙂

What’s your favorite color for spring? How do you work it into your outfits?

Thank you! That’s how I feel, too. If I want it and it fits, I don’t care about the size/section.

I love the look. Have you considered participating on the denim challenge of the merry traveler? I think it ends this week.

Hey Nefferth! I did consider sending something in. I just sent her an e-mail, so I hope I got it in on time :). Thanks for the comment!

CUTE! *I also shop maternity. Especially at Target.*

Thanks! Yeah, Target’s maternity section has MUCH better clothing than their plus-size range.

Love the look and love how you broke down the individual elements of each piece and then wrapped it up nicely. I liked the tip about maternity wear as well.

Awww you do look cute! The shoes are kinda quirky because of the material. Are they rubber? I love my rubber shoes because they can be washed!

I am loving red this spring. It just really pops with my wardrobe. BTW, I shop maternity if they have what I want and Plus Size doesn’t. Clothes are clothes in my opinion. Maternity is just a label. Who cares?

Yep, that’s how I see it! I love reds, which is kinda funny because I really disliked them when I was younger.

Tres Adorable! I think that the Target is a great one! Target can be so hit or miss with their clothes in the plus section. My main complaint is that everything is always so BASIC. The regular sections has some adorable dresses, tops, jackets etc. But the plus seems to be a few prints, but mostly based on black, and other black slacks, tops. I also wish they would resize the converse line, the tops are just a wee bit too tight for me in the boobs, otherwise there are some cute ideas.

My color I want to use more of this year is yellow.

Ahh! That’s what I complain about all of the time with Target. So basic! Which is really upsetting when you see the styles they offer in junior/misses/and maternity. Love yellow. i need to introduce more of it into my wardrobe.

I am so excited! I NEVER thought about using a hair straightener?! That is GENIUS and resourceful! but on top of that, I LOVE the shoes and that they are flats! I am always envious when it comes to shoes because usually the cute ones are high heels, and me and high heels leave me on my face in the front yard 🙂 So I am very excited to see cute shoes, that are flats, and probably at my local Target! You are amazing, and give me so many ideas with your outfits, and love each and everyone you post! Thank you for being you, for having all the strength and courage, and for being the beautiful soul you are! ❤

I love this! The shoes and accessories make me so happy! My friends are BAD influences when it comes to Target shopping- I always get EVERYTHING!

Thanks 🙂 Target is bad for me, too. I almost always end up there with some friends when we’re hanging out, and then I do major damage.

Very cute and casual! This is something I would definitely wear on the weekends.

How did I not know about the straightener thing?? And all those times I spent dragging out the iron and ironing board! I finally came to look at your blog and am now addicted to it! I love this outfit and definitely think it is something I would wear. Watch out though…I may go “shopping” in your closet!!

New to your blog but I had to comment and say there is so much to love about this outfit! I love everything about it–all the way from the cardi to the bracelet. Seriously, I had no idea that maternity clothes were so flattering on us curvy girls. I would never have known that it was a maternity item, to tell you the truth. I also love the bracelet. The colors are so striking and it’s such a trendy, statement piece. Finally, the jeans are exactly the shade of blue I’m looking for. You look great!
