I can’t think of a better Five Take theme than florals on the weekend of Easter. My family members vary from very religious to nonreligious, but we still all get together to enjoy the spring weather and spend time together on Easter weekend.

If you’ve been reading my blog for awhile, you know that I love myself some florals. I have a lot of entries where I’m wearing them in shirts/dresses/scarves/etc., but I won’t bog you down with links to them. Just trust, florals are a staple in my closet. I really wanted to show you all a floral print that I hadn’t worn before, so I decided to wear a dress that had been in my closet for a couple months. I snagged this dress for around $18 in a Macy’s sale. (I’m telling you, that clearance stalking pays off!)

This dress doesn’t have your typical floral print, and instead has swirls and dots that form big flowers in the print. I was really worried about the neckline since you can’t wear certain undergarments with it, but I ended up purchasing those cheap little attachments that go on the back of your bra straps to make this neckline work.

I wore the dress with my tan wedges, tan envelope clutch from Aldo, silver floral bracelet and studded earrings.

(Sorry, forgot to take a shot with my main camera.)

I liked all of these accessories until it came time to finding a cardigan to wear with the dress since the weather here still has its cold and hot moments. I tried on every cardigan/jacket I could think of and ended up with the one below. I actually like the cardigan with the dress, but not so much with the tan accessories. Maybe it’s just me being weird about the brown tones not matching.

It bothered me so much that I ended up wearing different sandals to the actual family gathering, but I forgot to take a picture.

I think this dress really needs maybe a cream cardigan that’s a little shorter than the one I picked. It would look good with a tan belt around the waistline over the cardigan, so I guess this look needs a little more tweaking to really work with what I picture.

As for the party itself, my family had a great time. I decided to bring Angel Food Cake with mushed strawberries for dessert.

And we had a little Easter egg hunt for my cousin’s child.

And my brother got in on a little of the fun.

I also saw Danielle‘s tweet about her boyfriend’s family doing little Peep dioramas, so my family decided to do that as well. It ended up being a lot of fun since we normally don’t get to do crafts.

This is my mom’s box. She decided to do Snape’s potions class from Harry Potter. Harry is in the first desk, followed by Hermione and Ron. We thought the pictures of sleeping wizards in the background were great!

My aunt did a Pocahontas scene. I loved the feathers and the trees.

My brother did the Trojan horse scene. See the little Peeps in there?

My sister did a house scene, which is no surprise because she loves interior design/decorating. You can’t see it from here, but she even had a vase with flowers on the dresser.

The NASA space shuttle was mine, mostly because I thought it’d be hilarious to see a Peep going to space.

We had a lot of fun doing it, so I’m really glad that Danielle had mentioned it on Twitter.

I hope you all had a great weekend!

What’s your favorite way to wear florals? Do you prefer brightly colored prints or ones that are more muted?

  1. Love the Peep Dioramas (sp?). I think the combination of the blue with the camel is fantastic. I don’t really wear florals, but when I do it doesn’t really matter as long as I like the print. Ironic, because today I am wearing florals, and they are more muted I guess. i don’t know, anyway, cute blog. Come check me out sometime.

  2. Oh wow, that is HILARIOUS! I love the Peep boxes! And the cardigan is a great fit for the dress!
I am floral obsessed too and now a bit more envious… 🙂 Happy Easter!

  3. That outfit is cute, cute, cute! I’ve always been an earth-tones kind of girl, but I’ve been expanding into florals a bit this spring and really loving it. I need to go back through some of your OOTD’s for inspiration!

  4. First thought….OOOH LA LA! You look great in that dress, and color. I would never had bought it, because of the unmentionables problem. I actually like the taupe cardigan. Mashed Strawberries? Never heard of that, sounds great though…..

Arts and Crafts time…..what a HOOT! My favorite is yours, because you are right peeps in space=hilarious!

  5. You are fantastic 🙂 I love you and I love that dress on you, gorgeous 🙂

  6. cute dioramas! i’m being so lazy, but i’ll get the peep post up soon. i couldn’t believe how good some of the dioramas were. one of them was multimedia with lights and music. fun, fun competition. we’re going to have to step up our game next year.

  7. Oh I love that dress and the tan accessories just work so well. How about a soft cream cardigan instead? Or even white?

The dioramas are great, I would love to do something like that.
