One of my favorite looks that I’ve seen people wearing lately is a chambray top with denim bottoms. Sometimes the two shades of the items are very close and other times very distinctive, and I tend to like the distinctive looks the most. I’ll admit that I’ve probably worn a variation of this outfit about 5-6 times in the last few weeks. It’s just a very easy, casual look, and it has basic elements that make it simpe to mix up with different accessories.

I wore this outfit on Saturday to meet up with my closest friend for some shopping and exploring of Charlotte. I live outside of the city, and I haven’t gotten many opportunities to be taken around by someone who actually knows the city well, so it was a fun time! I had completely forgotten that it was St. Patty’s Day, but thankfully I had added a few green accessories, saving me from odd pinches from strangers.

I like that the chambray top is a looser fit than my jeans, and it would look great with colored denim, which is what I originally bought it for. I added in pops of coral and green to keep the look interesting, and they were a big hit. I think I received compliments on the purse, ring, and necklace. That’s the great thing about the chambray/denim combo–it provides a great backdrop to feature accessories while still looking cool and fashionable.

Don’t mind the chipping nail polish…

  1. I like this look a lot! Coral is perfect accent.

I’ve always felt a little weird about mixing denim and chambray, like maybe it’s just too much? But seeing this makes me want to try it!

    1. I think that’s what held me back previously, which is probably why I like it when the two colors are different in lightness/darkness. You should definitely experiment with it though! I think the chambray top would look great with peach colored jeans, too 🙂

  2. I love chambray shirts – this was very popular in the 70s – reminds me of the music group The Eagles in their early days. I also like an open chabray top over a white Tee or a pop of color. I, personally, in my junior high days, wore it partly unbuttoned over a bright yellow tube top. Yes, definitely my younger days.

Love the color from the purse and jewelry. I have a pair of white jeans that are super comfortable and would wear the chambray shirt with those too. Great job, Bec!

  3. The outfit is the perfect backdrop for the accessaries. I love the purse and the necklace. I think a nice tee under the shirt would add some pop to the outfit. You look sooooo cute! I’ve seen some colored jeans in the fashion magazines with a chambray top. A little fedora hat would be cute to top it off with. Those models in the magazines wear hats and it always makes me want the outfit. The ability to wear hats makes a person look confident. Have you been to any of the outlets around Charlotte? Sometimes they don’t have too much choice in plus size things. I like to go for the accessories and shoes in these places.

    1. Thanks Denisa! I originally got this to go with colored denim 🙂 but the pieces I own are too dark. I need some lighter colored pieces, like a coral pink or something. I haven’t been to outlets near Charlotte. I used to work at the one in Blowing Rock (at Gap) and would get things there, but I haven’t been in a long, long time. I need to go!

  4. Girl, you look amazing! I’m a huge fan of a light chambray top with dark denim jeans, and have worn the combo myself a bunch of times. It’s just so casually cool, you know? Especially loving the bright pops of color with the shoes and accessories, and the bag is gorgeous. I might have to steal, er, borrow it.. 😉 LOL

  5. Love it! Double denim is very “in” now isn’t it. It looks much better than my attempt. I really want a baggy denim shirt – your’s looks perfect! Maybe I need to source from the US for a decent sized one?
    hmmm.

  6. I love this! You’re right, it does make a great backdrop for highlighting accessories.

The shoes are especially cute. I’m on a coral/pinky kick lately with a new layering sweater in that color.

  7. I am totally in love with your bag, also those shoes also your necklace. You’re right, the chambray/denim looks creates a great base/neutral to make your accessories the show stopper.
