Wednesday night was the Curves, Connections, and Cocktails event, and Nicole and I were tired by then but decided to still go. We didn’t end up staying long because I wasn’t feeling too well, and it was a different kind of event than I thought it was going to be. I was expecting to be able to talk and network with other people, but the music was very loud and the few conversations I tried to have just weren’t working. Regardless of my expectations and how I was feeling, everyone was having a great time. Just that the club scene isn’t really my scene!

Curvy Cabaret performing — great singers!

Before we headed home, Nicole and I stopped to get quick OOTD shots. I was looking a mess by the time these pictures were taken, but oh well!

I wore a Tahari Woman sequin dress that I had picked up months before in an Ideeli.com sale. It’s long sleeved normally, but that wasn’t going to work in June. This dress is probably the most body conscious one I own, so I felt a little out of my element, but if there’s anywhere to try new things it’s NYC!

The sequins on this dress run vertically, and it’s a knit dress so there’s plenty of stretch. I love the length of this dress. Just long enough to not have to worry about riding up, but still shorter than my typical dresses.

I added this metallic Neiman Marcus seashell clutch that I bought off of eBay. I originally was going to use this clutch with my white cruise outfit, but it worked out saving it for this look.

Do you wear body conscious dresses?

I saw so many variously shaped women wear them at FFFWeek and look completely amazing. I’m going to have to try out more styles to see what works for me!

  1. I would LOVE to wear a dress like this that hugs all my curves (and especially because it has SEQUINS!!), but I still haven’t worked up to that yet. I’m still trying to feel okay baring my arms on occasion. 🙂
    You look GREAT!

  2. Love this dress – and that pocketbook!!! What hot mess?! Now you asked about our own take on the body-con … what u r wearing here, that I would do – but in general, no. I can hear my late mother’s voice in my head saying, “That doesn’t look nice” – and when a woman who was a seamstress in the Garment District says so, well ….

  3. I LOVE that dress! It’s so sparkly chic and the fit is awesome on you.
As far as body conscious dressing goes, I’m someone who constantly dresses to show off my figure. I understand the feeling of being uncomfortable doing so, and occasionally I am too. But persevere! It’s worth it.

  4. Another beautiful dress, you look stunning! No reason to be body conscious, the sequins themselves get all the attention anyway :9.

  5. I found you on pinterest and am a normal size girl and WOW!!! Just want to say…you look amazing and great energy. I say be body conscious—knowing you are rocking it!

    1. When you are comparing bodies, and call yours “normal” it’s offensive. I’m sure she appreciates the compliment, but her body is normal too.

  6. I love this dress on you, you look fantastic!
I shy away from body-conscious dresses… but seeing this, I should maybe give it a try 🙂

  7. wow you look lovely in that sequin dress! looks like fun! I am not the club scene type of girl either but i do enjoy going out to dance every once in a while 🙂

  8. You look great in this dress!! I don’t go for bodycon myself esp for my bottom half!! But this dress looks really good on you; the length is right for you too! Also, wanted to let you know that we’re practically neighbors 🙂 I live in Ellenboro, NC, about 1.5 hours west of Charlotte. Just recently found your blog and have been enjoying it and learning alot.

  11. Oh no, you do NOT look like a hot mess! That dress is absolutely divine. I’m glad that you stepped out of your comfort zone and tried something new. It worked out for you!

I’ve worn body con a few times. I’m not so crazy about dresses on myself, but I really love skirts! Maybe my mind sees skirts as being more versatile with styling or something? haha

  12. That dress is absolutely unblievable. Your post of the one photo has been making the rounds on Tumblr, and I can see why!

  13. Wow! YOU LOOK AMAZING! Seriously, that dress is great and it just, it looks so fantastic on you!
