It’s an exciting week! After 6 years of studying, thinking about, planning, playing pretend, and worrying over becoming a teacher, I will finally be stepping into that role. I’d be a big ol’ liar if I said that I felt 100% confident, but I’ll muddle through somehow ;).

It’s fun to reflect on how I got to this point and how much blogging and meeting people through blogging (like you!) have helped me realize that you don’t have to be perfect, fearless, etc. Owning your emotions and thoughts in a moment of change or struggle is empowering. To quote Taylor Swift (Believe me; I cringed when I wrote that. But when a girl gets it right, I have to give props!) :

“To me, Fearless is not the absense of fear. It’s not being completely unafraid. To me, Fearless is having fears. Fearless is having doubts. Lots of them. To me, Fearless is living in spite of those things that scare you to death.”

― Taylor Swift

In the spirit of “new”, I decided to freshen up my hair by getting a few inches cut off and to update my wardrobe with a new jacket. My hair inspiration was Olivia Palermo’s long bob.

I’ve long loved this hair cut but felt that the length might be a little awkward for me. Also, knowing that I part my hair on the side, the sides of my hair wouldn’t have as even of volume as Olivia’s. I decided to stop telling myself it’d be awkward and just went for it. Much to my chagrin, my hair is flat in these photos, but I’m definitely loving it so far–especially the fact that it’s making my morning routine a little quicker!

For the jacket, I found it on a random trip to TJ Max, and I honestly would have overlooked it had it not been that I read an article the day before n Harper’s Bazaar about high contrast. It’s a size 22, and I was shocked that it fit. It needs some altering (shortening the sleeves, adding a slit in the back for my hips), but I’m liking the new style in my wardrobe.

(So professional with my iPhone scanning, I know.)

Are any of you going through a time of “new”? Do you tend to change multiple things when you’re in a time or change or do you prefer consistency when other things are changing around you?

Wish me luck — Wednesday is my first day!

P.S. Thank you for always making me feel capable and for the kind words whenever I need them — especially my twitter friends!

    1. Thank you, Kristen. I’m trying to remember to enjoy it (bumps and all!). It’s harder than you’d think when you’re nervous, but I know once I’m in the classroom it will come 🙂

  2. I really love the new hair. And the jacket is fab- it’s sweet finding bargain like that! I tend to change things often- so I feel like I’m always living in the new!

    1. I’ll be teaching Expository Writing, Argumentative Writing, Business Writing, and Creative Writing. Basically hitting all the big categories hahah. Thanks, Dani 🙂

  5. Congrats! That’s such a great outfit on you! And I love making new changes, I just recently startled excepting myself and my size so I’m starting to redo my wardrobe. It’s amazing how much better I feel about myself!

Good luck in your new position!

  6. wow! you look so beautiful with the new style, I love it! u rock the hair betta than olivia!!!!you are an inspiration for me, i love your outfits, I live in Germany n they dont really have nice clothes for plus size girls, so I´m kinda little jealous 😉 ….

    1. Thanks Pamela! I can definitely relate. When I was a teen, I only had one store to shop at–the same place my mom shop. I’m lucky that the US market has gotten much bigger. Hopefully Germany’s will get bigger too! Are you able to do online shopping?

  7. You look great! I’m loving that high contrast skirt featured in Harper’s Bazaar, but your jacket is fab also ^.^
Your hair looks lovely too..very chic.
Best of luck with your new job. Sounds really interesting and challenging!

Like Jessica I’m going through a change at the moment with regards to feeling confident about my body and changing up my wardrobe, but I very much like security and consistency in the other aspects of my life while I’m making changes. I can’t have too many things out of control at once. I’m a worrier!

  8. I absolutely love the hair. Rebecca, you have become my style icon! You seem so fearless and confident. I look forward to seeing your look and sometimes I try to duplicate it. Although I struggle with living in the “now”, I have learned by your example to try and am more aware of it. Thanks for being true to who you are.

Oh, by the way, Congratulations (in my Vesta’s voice) on your new assignment in life, TEACHER. Teachers mold the world! What am I saying, you have been teaching and molding your followers for some time NOW! Keep up the good work.

  9. From one English teacher to another: it’s the days leading up to teaching that are most anxiety-inducing. Once you’re in your element, it’s so much better. Challenging, hard, frustrating, exhausting, and absolutely awesome and rewarding. 🙂 Good luck!

  10. That jacket is HOT!!!! A must have! I’ve never tried TJ Max because I figured I wouldn’t fit into anything there. (I’ve window shopped in the past, and they tend to put out reeeeally, reeeeeeally tiny/skimpy outfits on display)

  11. That jacket is totally amazing!! I LOVE it!!!! And you will be great lady!! You have been preparing for this for a long time. Mistakes will be made, but I have a feeling you will ace everything!!

And your hair? Love love love!!! So so pretty!

  12. I LOVE the jacket. May have to go to TJMaxx if that is where you got it. I usually avoid that store ’cause I can’t stand digging through crammed up racks. And I love the hair cut. You look very sassy and stylish! Best wishes for Wednesday!!!

  13. WOW!! Is there anything you don’t look good in? lol. I LOVE that jacket and I must go straight to TJ’s tomorrow!! Good luck on teaching. The only hard part is the first day, get over that and you’re good to go 😉

  14. I love this outfit and the new hair, you look fantastic!
The best of luck for this new, amazing time in your life. I’m sure it’s going to be great!
