Severe Bag Envy + What’s in My Purse?

A couple days ago I was scrolling through Instagram when a picture from stylist (and former Marie Claire “Big Girl, Skinny World” editor) Ashley Falcon popped up on my feed. It was a simple picture with some bags from her trip, but suddenly I found myself thinking about the purse on top of the stack over and over again.

It’s not my typical style of purse. Usually I’m a crossbody lover, but the angles of the bag and the colorblocking pulled me in. I’m pretty sure hers is a Céline bag and way, way, way out of my price range, but I went on a mad hunt for similar styles and here’s what I found:

Bag Envy
I ended up getting the H&M purse on a discount (the coupon code is on their site currently). I was pretty surprised that I couldn’t find any with the same sharp red as hers, but I think I’m a couple months too late, as spring styles are already rolling out in stores.
All of this purse obsession and stumbling on a “what’s in my bag” post made me want to share what I carry around too. I will say that I took out about 6 receipts and a napkin or two, so you’re getting the clean version of my handbag.

I originally picked up this red Aldo bag before Christmas, and I loved the size and shallow depth so much that I asked for the black version for Christmas. Well, Santa must have thought I had too many purses, so I didn’t get it, but luckily I found it in-store a couple weeks later on major discount. I love this bag so much that I alternate between the red or black depending on my outfit. It’s just so easy to wear. The crossbody strap is the perfect length, and the pockets are just the right size.

This purse has two sections, as you can see, with one small zip pouch inside the large section and holders for your phone and keys.

I have a couple of staples that must come along with me on my way to work: my Fossil wallet, mini iPad, and a notebook. This wallet is a few years old, but I swear by Fossil’s products. I’ve had two wallets of theirs, and both have lasted me years. Plus, they make wallets that have zip closures, which I like because I often take just my wallet as a purse to things.

At school, I often write when I ask my students to write, and I put down things I need to remember to do or plan out lessons or paper ideas, so a notebook is a must. I originally found this notebook style at Target, and I loved the collection (3 notebooks) so much that I wanted a few more. They are no longer in stock at my Target, but I found them on ChronicleBooks.com.

In the inner pockets, I keep my small things: cell phone, hair accessories, travel perfume, and a little leftover Christmas chocolate. I just recently started carrying the perfume, mostly because I am out of the house for much more of the day. I picked up this travel Daisy by Marc Jacobs perfume at Ulta, and thought the price was great considering the bottle was larger than I had expected.

In the outside pocket, I carry all of my “need to grab fast” things. I never realized how many lip products I had in there. I guess I like choice.

Burt’s Bees’ Pomegranate is my old faithful. I’ve been wearing the Cover Girl Lip Perfection all winter in Berry Twist, and I received the Bite lip pencil in a sampler and liked it a lot. Well, that’s my bag. Not too interesting, but it has my favorite things and necessities.
What do you carry in your bag? Are there any bag styles that you’re currently dreaming about?

  1. Here’s a list for the one zipper part inside: classroom keys, lip gloss, nude lipsick, two pens, pencil, and cough drops. In the purse: a small Bible, a make up case with my inhaler, Advil for migranes, Benadryl, and some odds and ends, a 31 wallet with what you think it would have, an 1 terabyte portalbe hard drive, a Kindle, phone, bag of cough drops, cell phone charger, variety of business cards from parents, key chain with all the important keys, hairbrush, and a variety of junk and receipts.

This bag was gifted to me. Well, my mom gave me the money to buy it. It’s the MICHAEL Michael Kors Hamilton East West Satchel. I used to dream about it and my mom made that dream come true. I watched videos of it. I would sit and watch reviews on youtube. I’ve had it for 9 months and I have not carried another bag except at a wedding.

My bag of choice because someone else paid for it: http://www.belk.com/AST/Main/Belk_Primary/Women/Featured_Shop/MostWanted/Satchel/PRD~260083130S2GHMS3L/Hamilton+East+West+Satchel.jsp?cm_mmc=Search%20-%20Google-_-PLA%20Basic%20Campaign-_-PLA%20Primary%20AdGroup-_-AutoTargets&ktid=311-000000&gclid=CMfCxvTxmbwCFTJp7AodhUMA5Q

  2. My current bag is a pink leather coach purse, inside is a pink coach wallet, a pen, EOS pomegranate lip balm, my car and office keys, a printout of a treadmill workout plan and a pair of ear buds. I’m currently wanting a Michael Kors bag.

  3. Got a Coach for Christmas that’s oversized and I feel I should carry more but I just don’t have many needs. My bag innards are similar to yours sans iPad. Craving a cutie I saw on the coach factory store but must restrain! GAH

  4. I love that bag! You have to check out some Rebecca Minkoff bags- she makes great crossbody bags that are a little pricey but not Celine! Thanks for the pingback, too.

  5. I love your red purse! Also, I’m guilty of having a lot of lip products floating around in each bag because I always forget to empty them. It’s kind of nice because I keep discovering lipsticks I had forgotten about hehe.
