Review: Big Fig | The Mattress for a Bigger Figure

Hey everyone! Today’s video is a little different because I’m reviewing a home item. I am so, so, so excited that I get to work with Big Fig Mattress and bring you this review. I’ve known about Big Fig for years, and I got to meet their team when I went to Atlanta for the TCF Expo.

I contacted them to see if they wanted to work together because I was so interested in their product. I was gifted the mattress, foundation, and frame for the purpose of a review. I was not paid to make a video. All opinions are my own.

Big Fig is a mattress specifically made for a bigger figure. It holds more weight and has better materials for heavier people. They recently launched a quicker shipping method by providing their mattress in a box, so I tested this out and put together the bed myself. I hope you enjoy the video — It’s very thorough!

I am now an affiliate of Big Fig and have my own discount code. I do earn a small commission on sales through my link.

You can shop Big Fig here. Coupon code: REBECCA – good for at least $100 off, but currently good for $300 off!

Dressing Up with SimplyBe

When SimplyBe recently reached out to me and offered the chance to try some of their new items, I jumped at the chance. It had been a year or so since I had gotten an item from SimplyBe, but they were always in my dream-wardrobe building website visits, especially since they care so many different brands with signature styles. As I looked to pick out items, my eye kept going to dresses, dresses, and more dresses. So it was decided, I was going to dress up with SimplyBe :).

My first choice was this print wrap dress. I was drawn to the colors, the flowy bell sleeve, and the potential to wear with tights (a must as we approach winter). The dress did have stitching to make the v-neck have a higher gathering. It cause a little gapping on me, so I took out the stitching and added an under tank.

The dress is faux-wrapped at the waist. It was a little loose and didn’t have much elastic, so I went with a belt, which I think added to the look anyway. I added a pink floral earring to finish off the look.

The second dress I went for was a blue Joanna Hope wrap dress (I must have also been feeling wrap dresses that day). This one is also a faux-wrap, as it really is just a knot off to the side. This dress is perfect for a date night, going to a play, or wearing to work. It is super comfortable and no-fuss, but looks dressy.

As I write this post, I’m already eyeing some other dress styles, available sizes 8-28. Check out my new favorites here and here.

Let me know what you think of these styles and if there are any others I should check out!

Thank you to SimplyBe for these gifted items.

OOTD: Love Is in the Details

One of my absolute favorite brands to work with is Kiyonna. I joined their

Blogger Brigade before the summer, and since then they’ve dressed me for events at FFFWeek, looks for summer, and even pieces for me to wear to work (I teach at a college). When they asked what I was interested in this past month, I knew I wanted one of their fancier dresses in navy. They have so, so many good semi-formal dresses, and right now a lot of their styles come in navy or a combo of navy and black, such as this knit wrap dress and this bodycon dress. This is their Scalloped Boudoir Dress, which is coincidentally the very first design that I ever bought from the brand — back in 2008! Kiyonna’s clothing always has such great quality, and the love truly is in the details. I put this piece on, and I instantly felt beautiful. It’s just one of those pieces that feels special. Because of that, I wanted to get a little fancier than my typical brick background, and my friend Brittany (who came with me to FFFWeek) used her photography skills to capture the dress.

I wanted all of the attention to be on the dress, so I paired it with light tan heels and this super sweet clutch by Miss Selfridge, which I received at Arcadia’s press day over the summer. I love the light mocha color of the clutch and all of the beading.

Besides the navy color, my favorite detail on this dress is the scalloped hem along the neckline, sleeves, and bottom hem. Again, it’s the extra detail that makes Kiyonna’s clothing so loved.

Taking these photos reminded me how transformative outfit shots are. Sometimes it’s hard to love yourself, and often that gets filtered to your looks because “looks”, whoever’s they are, get criticized so often. My face is fuller than its been in the past, but I still am able to recognize my beauty in these pictures. I loved seeing the photos of me laughing at Brittany. It reminds me that I am loved and have wonderful people in my life. I’m thankful for where blogging has taken me.

Are you loving navy this fall/winter? What’s your current “fancy” dream dress?

FFFWeek Day Two: Curves For A Cure Benefit Runway

New to the FFFWeek schedule was a fundraising event that had a celebrity runway show and silent auction to benefit breast cancer awareness. I thought this was an excellent event to add to the week, as it allowed those participating in FFFWeek to give back through fashion, whether that be donation, silent auction, or ticket sales. The lovely team at Kiyonna sent me their beautiful Linden Lace Top to wear to the event, and I felt SO GOOD in it. I love finding those clothing items that just make you feel amazing as soon as you put it on, and this top definitely fit the bill in celebrating curves for the night.

The event showcased various celebrities in the plus size community in donated looks from brands such as Lane Bryant and SWAKDesigns among others. Celebrities included Marie Denee of The Curvy Fashionista, Gwen DeVoe – creator of FFFWeek, Lizzie Miller, Madeline Jones from Plus Model Magazine, Lucille O’Neal, Sharon Quinn, Rosie Mercado and others. All of the looks incorporated Breast Cancer Awareness color of pink and were later held for a silent auction. This was a really fun runway because it was all about celebrating women and having a good time while doing it.

Olivia of Wait Until the Sunset, Aisha of Fat in the City, and me — I had only met Aisha earlier that day, but you wouldn’t have guessed that. She was so much fun to talk to and she’s doing some interesting work in the plus size fashion world and fat activism world. Be sure to check her out (and Olivia too, of course, but I’m hoping that you know and love Olivia by now since I’ve linked to her many times over the years).

I felt super sexy in this outfit, and that’s not a feeling that I have often. I can feel pretty, etc, but sexy is a whole nother attitude.

What I wore: Kiyonna Linden Lace Top, ASOS Jersey Pencil Skirt, Avenue Black Wedges

What’s your favorite look from the runway? Which plus size celeb do you want to meet or were most excited to meet?

*The top was gifted to me by Kiyonna for the purpose of wearing it to an FFFWeek event. My opinion of the item is expressed honestly. Thank you, Kiyonna!

Lane Bryant Fashion Style Off

During FFFWeek, Lane Bryant is holding a blogger conference, and as part of that, all invited bloggers are participating in a style off. While I’m not necessarily a “competition” kind of person, it does feel like one large “five take” post with all bloggers taking on the challenge to style an outfit differently. Lane Bryant sent us all a $200 gift card and set us loose to pick an outfit. I chose to purchase mine online during their BOGO free sale, so I was able to get my entire outfit PLUS another dress that I will wear to the beach next week. Here’s the outfit I put together for the challenge.

I had previously tried on this batik dress in store, so I knew it was a good fit and style for this “style off”. The top is smocked and is expandable, and then the bottom skirt has a double layer that gives the dress movement as you walk. What drew me to this dress was the mirrored print and the vibrant colors. I picked up on the coral accents with my shoes and belt. I don’t have a lot of fancy sandals, and I was kind of shocked how comfortable these were. I guess I thought sandals like these would be tight against my ankle, but these jeweled sandals fit perfectly. I finished off the look with the studded jean jacket, which is my go-to choice to wear over a dress during spring/summer.

Lane Bryant will post all of the bloggers’ looks on their Facebook page through an application, and you will all be able to vote on your favorite look once they are posted. A few blogger friends have already posted their looks on their personal blogs. Check out how Hanna, Dani, and Bella Styles styled their looks.

I’ll be sure to tweet and post the link once all of it is loaded. I’m looking forward to meeting the Lane Bryant team in NYC.

Did any of you take advantage of their BOGO sale? What would you have picked to make your styled outfit?

*All items chosen by me and paid for by Lane Bryant. These items reflect the honest pieces that interested me as a shopper. Thank you, Lane Bryant!

Brand Spotlight: Dresses from

With New Years Eve coming up, I’ve been looking at a lot of dresses lately in anticipation of a night out. After seeing a couple bloggers do a party dress challenge, I headed over to check out the plus size dresses by Simply Be to find a NYE look (check out Bethany and Hanna‘s looks by clicking on their names!). I have had some great finds with Simply Be and some pieces that ended up being too short on me, so I tend to look for dresses that are knee length or longer when ordering. Here are my favorite looks for NYE:

I have to admit that I always go a little glitter/bead/shiny-things crazy around the holidays. I really like the beading on this Rise Rosalie Beaded Dress, and it seems perfect if you are going to a party where you need to stay cool while dancing and having a fun time.

If you want sleeves for your NYE dress, this Changes Boutique Bead Cuff Dress is perfect. The billow sleeves against the more form fitting bust/v-neck is really pretty. If I wanted to get a dress that I’d feel 100% comfortable in all night, this one would be my pick.

I’m not sure that I would go for full-length on NYE for myself, but I do like this V-Neck Glitter Jersey Maxi. It is super sexy, and you can wear it belted or free flowing like the model. It’s a simple design, but the glitter fabric brings luxury and fun to your look.

Have you been thinking about what to wear on NYE? What’s your NYE style (beading, glitter, leather, etc)?

This is a partnership post. It reflects my true view of my favorite dresses at
