I think some time during my high school years when jeans with crazy shading were in style I heard one of those “fat girls can’t” statements.
“Fat girls can’t wear light jeans. It makes their thighs look bigger.”
Well from then on I pretty much stayed as far away from light colored jeans as I possibly could. Even medium wash jeans had to sneak into my sea of dark denim because I kept thinking that light denim was a no-no. This summer I was buying my typical stock of Old Navy cropped denim/capris and bermuda shorts when I realized I only had two options: medium wash and light wash. I was faced with either wearing the same colored jeans all summer for every outfit or to bite the bullet and try the light denim wash, so I went for it.
I’ve previously only worn this light denim with light tops, but I decided to wear it out with a black top. When I was wearing it, I liked it a lot. I’m a little ambivalent about it right now, but one thing is for sure: light denim can be a do.
I picked up this print top at Nordstrom, which has hands down the most impressive plus section of any department store I’ve been in. I worried that their clothes wouldn’t fit me since they stop at 3X/24, but I’ve easily fit into everything I tried on, including a Suzi Chin dress that was labelled three sizes below my typical dress size. Since the top had a busy print, I kept it simple with suede black shoes, and a cocktail ring and earrings in silver. I finished the look with my new M.A.C. lipstick in “Lustering” which is a beautiful bright pink.
The pattern is a mixture of birds and floral print with grayish-blue and white colors.
I love this ring’s unusual shape and marbled faux-stone. Forever21 has really been pushing rings with expandable/elastic bands, and I’ve been reaping the benefits!

No, always stay in the darker side. Just couldn’t find a perfect light denim jeans for me..

I have the exact same crops and I freaking love them! I usually pair mine with a tank top and a lightweight cardigan and some cute flats. Easy peasy! You look great as always… and I’m diggin’ the birdie print! Too cute!
I don’t wear light coloured jeans but only because I don’t like them rather than I shouldn’t wear them. I pretty much wear every no no – skinny jeans, horizontal stripes, ruffles on my bust…etc. Oli like to rebel 🙂
