If you’ve been reading my blog for awhile, you might remember that a few months ago I was involved in a blogging group that wrote weekly Five Take posts (such as here, here, and here ;)). Well we revamped the group with active bloggers and are getting back into the Five Take posts in the next year. For those who don’t know what Five Take is, it’s five bloggers who take on a theme or clothing item and see how we each would work the look. I love seeing how different styles read the themes differently, so it’s always a lot of fun :). Including me, the five bloggers are Nicole, Becky, Claire, and Gina, and as the Five Take posts come in, I will add links their festive looks at the bottom of the post.

Although we aren’t starting the weekly series until the next year, we thought it’d be fun to do a holiday preview, especially since this time of the year provides so many opportunities to dress up for parties. For me, my festive look came about when I needed to put an outfit together for my little brother’s college graduation. I was planning on wearing a wrap dress, but decided between the long walk to the stadium and the long ceremony, a more comfortable dress needed to be worn. I pulled out my new Kiyonna Collete dress because the length and style is absolutely perfect for feeling comfortable and chic.

(Please ignore my odd facial expression. I had an audience during my picture taking, and the awkwardness reads on my face!)

You already know about my love of red, but before this season I had never owned a red dress! I’m now converted into thinking that every woman needs a red dress. It stands out in a crowd and is definitely a statement piece!  I kept the look relatively simple with the accessories and just incorporated the key things to a holiday look: a statement clothing piece, comfortable heels, and sparkle, sparkle, sparkle :).

I got this necklace during my Ideeli binge Black Friday shopping. I think it was originally $300, and I got it for around $30. Definitely a steal at the price I got it! It was a bit short, so I added a nifty extender to the back. Having long hair has helped me out pretty often in concealing such things :).

Dress: Kiyonna, Shoes: Target, Necklace: Cara Couture, Ring: my mother’s (probably Avenue)

Between Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Eve, I’m sure a lot more festive outfits will be showing up here.  I tend to side on simple, but I enjoy a great dress shape and a little bling. Wanna see how the other girls pull off festive? Check out Gina, Becky, Nicole, and Claire‘s Five Take posts!

How do you do festive? What are you planning to wear to parties (holiday or not) this winter season?

  1. Wow, you look amazing! That dress is gorgeous. I love how you’ve styled it – simple, but very elegant and chic.

I’m envious of all your great jewelry finds!
