It’s finally my favorite time of the year, fashion-wise and everything-else-wise too :). Every weekend there is something really fun to do, and for the last few weeks, I’ve been wearing the heck out of this Evans top as I went to the ren fest, the county fair, and today to a bonfire. I had been wanting to wear the top with a leggings and boots look, but I very rarely actually wear anything tucked into boots. It’s a look I love, but not one I’ve worn before, and I tended to talk myself out of the look thinking it didn’t look “right” or wasn’t my style (whatever that is). I shared a quick pic on Instagram, and everyone told me to go for it, so I finally did!

It ended up being perfect for the bonfire and walking around outside. I love the style of the boots, and I’ve owned them for a year but this is the first I’ve worn them out. Over the past year or so, I’ve become more and more aware of how much the way I dressed as a kid and teen has affected how I dress now. Also, how people dress where I live really affects things. When I go to New York City, I feel more free to wear whatever I want because everyone is dressed differently, but here just wearing a nice top and jeans can be “overdressed” to others. I know that I get to chose whether to dress according to those things or not. I guess that’s what the OMCZ challenges are for!

  1. Hi Rebecca. Did you see the call for papers for Fat Studies presentations are the SouthWest Popular Culture Conference in Albuquerque Feb. 19-22, 2014?

I’m wondering if you’d be interested in participating. I’m wondering if you’d be willing to send the CFP for all the fatshion bloggers. I’m wondering if you’d like to put a panel together about fat fashion blogging, fashion week, and the impact of all of this wonderful stuff on fat women.

Let me know if you have any interest.

    Cordially, Susan

  2. The print is so pretty, and the blue is a great color on you. I think I’ll be wearing a lot of dresses, cardigans, and tights this year, but that’s nothing new. Lane Bryant has some new tunic sweaters that I’m loving this season, so I can also see trying tunic sweaters, leggings, and booties this season. That’s definitely out of my comfort zone, but I think I’m ready to to take the plunge!

  3. I love the look and the boots. I know just what you mean by what you wear as a kid affects how you dress now. You become comfortable in a certain kind of clothing and style. It is good that today you can blend any style and era together. It is just HOW you blend them. I grew up up there in the NC mountains and if you dressed anything out of the ordinary, you stood out. How can you compete with overalls, tee shirts and smock tops. (70s era style) My mom was the fashion maven of Avery County and went to Lazarus in Morganton to buy her clothing. She always looked like she stepped out of a fashion magazine and she pushed me to wear things I wasn’t comfortable with. As a kid I was embarrassed to go out with her because she dressed so young. Now I know better. Today, I am like my mom and love clothes. I would spend my whole salary on them if I could but job dictates what I wear now, which is junk that I can ruin because I work with little kids and I wear things that I can get bleach and paint on. Shoes must be comfortable. I wear a big blue smock over everything so what I wear gets hidden anyway. I have far more clothes than I can ever wear, which leaves the weekends to dress up a little. It is good that today, the style is leggings and big shirts. I want some boots like yours and I think I have found some, I just have to get then before they sell out. If you can, go up to the mountains and see the beautiful fall leaves. They are peaking right now.

  4. I really love that outfit! You look amazing. My go to outfit is a dress just above knee length, leggings and boots. As long as I’m warm and cosy and looking cute, I’m happy!

  5. I can totally relate to what you’re saying about what other people around you are wearing being an influence on what you choose to wear. A year ago I moved from the city to a small country town, and I also find that I don’t feel quite as confident dressing up as I did before my move. It’s hard to dress the way you want to when every other person on the street is wearing a tracksuit or jeans. I stand out from the crowd most days!

  6. I only wish i don’t become huge like u later…….esp after marriage……i mite have to opt for surgery then!

    1. May your wishes come true and you forever live a life you want.

P.S. Thank goodness I live a fulfilling life that does not require me to go on to other people’s blogs and make such unneeded, unwanted remarks. Shame on you.
